How “sleep wellness” is fuelling the industry

5 May 2026

Growth of over six per cent and consumers willing to invest more than ever in their sleep: the outlook is promising for bedding, duvets, pillows, mattresses and sleep systems. This is particularly true where the desire for health, self-optimisation and sustainability meets genuine innovation.

Market research institutes agree: sleep holds considerable potential. Fortune Business Insights, for example, forecasts global market growth from USD 57.51 billion (2025) to USD 91.23 billion by 2032 – equivalent to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.82 per cent1. Data Insights Market is similarly optimistic, projecting a global CAGR of an impressive 6.4 per cent through to 2033. Key drivers behind this positive trend include rising disposable incomes and ongoing urbanisation, particularly in Asia, but above all the “sleep wellness” movement – the growing awareness of the profound impact of sleep on health and productivity.2

Innovative and specialised manufacturers in particular are benefiting from this trend – not least because there is still considerable untapped potential. According to a recent ResMed study, 84 per cent of respondents across 13 countries are aware that consistently good sleep contributes to a healthy and long life. At the same time, the majority (53 per cent) report sleeping well on no more than four nights per week. It is reasonable to assume that as awareness of the importance of sleep continues to grow, so too will the likelihood of consumers actively engaging with the topic.3

Conclusion

With an outlook of around six per cent annual growth through to 2032, the sleep market is on a dynamic upward trajectory. The key drivers are major trends such as health, self-optimisation, individualisation, sustainability and “sleep wellness”. With compelling developments such as functional textiles, bespoke and smart mattresses, manufacturers are positioning themselves for a discerning and high-spending clientele. The industry is wide awake and focused on quality, comfort and innovation.
