New & Next

22 Dec 2022

The "New & Next University Competition" selects representative design concepts from students at international universities specializing in textile design as part of Heimtextil 2023. The winners will be presented at the international trade fair in Frankfurt from January 10 to 13, 2023.

With "a softer wood", Isabella Valerie Braunreuther (graduate of the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Germany) is one of the outstanding winners of the 2023 competition. "A softer wood" fuses wood with textiles and brings the core properties of the two materials into symbiosis.

Gaia Leonardi (graduate of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Switzerland) won with her project "Manifattura - Minimale." It explores the possibilities of economical crafting of scales by using textile waste from industrial anti-reflective production lines.

Ume Kulsum Ali Akber (8th semester, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Pakistan) impressed the jury with her structural design research, "Discarded Treasures," which involves the use of unused industrial textile waste and leftovers from the garment industry.
