Sustainability in South Asia

A look behind "Made in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan..."

17 Jul 2024

South Asia is a global hub for international textile production. But it is not only since the Rana Plaza disaster that production countries such as Pakistan, India and Bangladesh have come under increasing criticism for their working conditions and environmental damage. The fact that "Made in Bangladesh, India or Pakistan..." provides many positive examples of fair working conditions and environmental and social standards, however, also explains why sustainable brands also have their production there.

At the Econogy Hub at Heimtextil 2024 in Frankfurt, Yulia Bazhenova, Aditya Gupta, Sabine Kaldonek, Shafiqul Alam Selim and Jennifer Castoldi spoke about the opportunities and challenges associated with sustainable transformation in this market.

The discussion focuses on how brands can take responsibility for their supply chain through fair cooperation and how manufacturing countries can position themselves in terms of sustainability.

The panel includes:

Yulia Bazhenova

GIZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit

Aditya Gupta

The Rug Republic

Sabine Kaldonek

Femnet e.V.

Shafiqul Alam Selim
