Mainstream business meets Avantgarde

The Paris trade fair duo of Texworld Paris and Avantex once again combines worlds of fashion
From 18 to 21 September 2017 the Le Bourget exhibition halls in Paris became once more a centre for sourcing textiles – the trade fair duo of Texworld Paris and Avantex showcased the relevant trends and product innovations in the fashion and textile sector for an international trade fair audience. At Texworld in late summer 950 material manufacturers from 27 countries were on hand to present their autumn/winter season 2018/19 products to designers, product managers and buyers. Avantex, the high-tech and innovation platform, now includes over 30 exhibitors from Europe and Asia and was held for the fifth time in parallel with the world’s leading trade fair, Texworld.
Once more Texworld focussed thematically on presenting the sustainable products and initiatives of its exhibitors. It bundles these together in the so-called ‘Sustainable Sourcing Itinerary’, a special visitor guide that lists almost 80 suppliers who produce in an environmentally friendly way. To be included as exhibitor in the Sustainable Sourcing Itinerary you need product certification according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Organic Exchange, Bluesign, SA 8000 or WRAP. Listing in the itinerary gives these producers a special status, their fabrics being characterised by the use of sustainable, alternative fibres, including organic cotton, linen, hemp, Lyocell and Tencel or Modal along with a large number of recycled fibres. In addition, the fabrics were on display once again in the trend forum.
Technical innovations, such as the key concepts of digitalisation and interconnectivity are currently revolutionising the textile value-added chain. Held for the fifth time in parallel with Texworld, Avantex aims to pull all these threads together and since its inception interest in it has increased year on year. This time the show focussed thematically on innovative materials, prototyping, accessories, smart retail and printing technologies. Taken together they represent the future of the fashion sector – just like Avantex itself which, within only a few seasons, has already firmly established itself as a creative force to drive new thinking as a counterpoint to the more consumer-oriented Texworld
