‘Sustainability in Clothing’ is the overriding theme of the forthcoming African Sourcing & Fashion Week
The African Sourcing & Fashion Week (ASFW) is Africa’s biggest textile trade fair. Over the last few seasons the organisers have already seen an increasing visitor interest in sustainability themes such as where fashion comes from and ecological and socially responsible production. As a result, this year’s show targets new approaches. ‘Sustainability in Clothing’ is the overriding theme under which the ASFA has bundled a diverse range of information offerings - from a match-making platform and fashion show to a special area and a four-day conference.
The conference programme offers a broad range of themes and experts from well-known companies. H&M, WRAP and the Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Ethiopia and Solidarity are some companies and institutions talking about current challenges and sustainable solutions relating, in particular, to production, ecology and certification. On the third day of the trade show a panel discussion will focus on sustainable design. Taking ‘Sustainable Fashion Design from Africa’ as their motto, designers like Shaldon Kopman from Naked Ape or Rich Mnisi will discuss eco-fashion from the African continent. The questions will be asked by Annette Pringle-Kölsch from ‘The Fashion Agent’, an agency that represents leading African designer brands.
The ASFW is organised by Trade and Fairs East Africa. Messe Frankfurt is working with the African organiser within the framework of the ASFW. The Africa Sourcing & Fashion Week will see the launch of three new trade fair brands, Texworld Addis Ababa, Apparel Sourcing Addis Ababa and Texprocess Addis Ababa. This event trio presents over 250 international exhibitors from 25 countries.
