Against violence and discrimination in the apparel industry
The idea of the first Gender Forum to be initiated by the Fair Wear Foundation was to prevent violence against men and women in the apparel industry through the exchange of information and the creation of networks. To this end, the Fair Wear Foundation invited players from politics, business and relevant NGOs to Vietnam, to share their knowledge, experience and ideas within the framework of the three-day Gender Forum.
However, this was not meant to be a purely theoretical event. On the contrary, the aim of the three-day forum was to come up with solutions whereby workshops, lectures and open discussions for those affected were designed to generate impulses for active improvements to the status quo. Background information and materials to guide and promote self-help are available for downloading from the organisation’s website.
The Gender Forum was held at the Wyndham Legend Ha Long Hotel in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, from 2 to 4 October 2017. Other supporters and co-organisers of the Forum are ITC, the educational arm of the International Labour Organization, CNV Internationaal, Mondiaal FNV and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
