Planet Textiles in Bangalore
The international sustainability conference 'Planet Textiles' enters its next round on 24 May 2017 in Bangalore. Once again the organisers MCL Global and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), in cooperation with Messe Frankfurt, look forward to seeing decision-makers in the international textiles industry for four days of discussion on the current ecological and social situation in the sector. The emphasis this year is on waste water pollution, chemical management and the preservation of natural resources such as energy and water. The organisers are concerned with raising awareness of these issues, which otherwise tend to be classified as regional issues for individual production sites.
MCL and the SAC are strong partners: MCL publishes Ecotextile News among other things, and the SAC is one of the most prestigious alliances in the clothing, shoe and home textiles industry. It strives for sustainable production methods and has introduced the Higg Index as a measuring standard for this. Every year since 2009 they have brought together the 'Who’s Who' of the industry within the context of 'Planet Textiles'. Their guests to date have included companies such as Wal-Mart, Nike, Triumph International, H&M, Levi Strauss, adidas, Esprit, VF Corp, Puma, Marks & Spencer, North Face, Greenpeace, IKEA and Patagonia. Most of these have engaged with the discourse on the podium and provided insights into their business practices. The organisers are confident that they will be able to follow on from the successes of past years in the JW Marriott Hotel and they will be welcoming again around 450 visitors.+
