Trade show: Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics

Taking the lead

According to predictions, China will be the global market leader for textiles and apparel in 2019. This was also noticeable during the international trade fair for apparel fabrics and accessories, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics. With an international audience and a new record number of exhibitors, the fair is reporting tremendous success.

According to a prediction by the Euromonitor research group, in 2019 China will be the global market leader for textiles and clothing products, therefore overtaking the USA. Zhang Tao, the Secretary General of the Sub-Council of the Textile Industry, told trade magazine “Textile Network” that the local industry is investing in research and development more than ever before to enable it to compete on a global scale. The booming Chinese and global textile industry presented itself at Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics from 14 until 16 March. Not only a significant 15% increase in the number of buyers and therefore a new visitor high of 82,314 resulted in a high footfall at the event, but new heights were also reached with 3,386 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions. And there was strong growth in the number of attending buyers from Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and India while Italy and Bangladesh also entered the top 10 list of participating countries and regions.

Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt, is delighted at the positive outcome: “After the strong increase in the number of buyers attending last October’s autumn edition and the generally favourable outlook of the global textile industry in recent months, we were expecting a strong result this year, but the increased number of exhibitors and buyers placing their trust in this fair as their main business platform has completely exceeded our expectations.” The significance of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics for the global textile industry has therefore been underlined once again and, according to Wen, elevated to a whole new level.

Seven halls and extended special areas like the Premium Wool Zone, which reflected the evolving use of wool in spring/summer collections, and the Beyond Denim zone, which had doubled in size, ensured a wide spectrum of the latest innovations and sourcing options. As Josh Lane, Regional Manager of textile manufacturer Holland & Sherry, summed up: “We can’t afford not to be here.”

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics took place together with Yarn Expo, Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles, the clothing fair Chic and knitwear fair PH Value from 14 until 16 March 2018 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. The next edition of the trade fair will be from 27 until 29 September 2018.
