From 27 February until 1 March 2018, 34 exhibitors from nine countries presented their high-end leather products to thousands of regional buyers during the fourth edition of Leatherworld Middle East at the World Trade Centre in Dubai. Thanks to the fact that Paperworld Middle East, the region’s largest trade fair for the paper, office supplies and stationery industries, was taking place at the same time, the spectrum of visitors was diversified even further. Around 7,000 visitors from more than 90 countries were inspired by the luxurious leather products on show, including handbags from Thailand, African fashion accessories and camel hide goods produced in the United Arab Emirates. Whether clothing, accessories, shoes or interior items – a huge variety of product segments ensured virtually unlimited sourcing options.
“We were thrilled to bring the global leather creations community together once again at Leatherworld Middle East 2018,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of the event’s organiser Messe Frankfurt Middle East. “Exhibitors from all over the world came to the fore, displaying the very best of what they had to offer to regional trade buyers who were looking for something truly unique and special.” Leather manufacturer Al Khaznah Tannery was also delighted about the international appeal of the show: its specialism, the tanning of camel skin leather, was much discussed – especially among buyers from the company’s main export markets, Eastern Asia and Europe, which account for almost 50 percent of its factory’s output.
The wide range of leather processing methods was also evident in a showcase in which second-year fashion design students from Esmod Dubai presented fifteen handbag creations. The fair was accompanied by a two-day seminar programme examining the future of the global leather industry. Leatherworld Middle East 2018 was supported by the South Africa Leather Export Council and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. The fifth edition of the trade fair will take place in March 2019.
