Engage in at least one sporting activity every day, learn at least two ways of keeping fit and have a health examination every year – that is the kind of active lifestyle the Chinese government is encouraging its population to partake in. They are actively pursuing this goal with a national fitness programme that is creating new opportunities for sport and exercise. And the flourishing market for functional textiles is profiting from this in particular.
At its Autumn Edition from 27-29 September 2018, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, the world’s largest trade fair for clothing fabrics and accessories, will be showcasing the latest functional innovations. The “Functional Lab” will be putting the spotlight on smart, outdoor and sportswear fabrics, as well as performance textiles and innovative production technologies. The topic of sustainability is also playing an important role with exhibits including recycled fabrics. And the development of the fair is showing how popular the curated selection of functional fabrics and innovations is proving among visitors and exhibitors: at this year’s Autumn Edition, the size of the area will increase by 94 percent and the number of exhibitors is set to more than double.
