The government of Ethiopia aims to establish the landlocked country in the international textiles and apparel industry. With this in mind, it has set itself ambitious goals: In Ethiopia, the textile and apparel industry currently employs 47,000 people. The government plans to increase the number of qualified employees to 350,000 within the next five years. In addition, the country aims to reach middle-income status by 2025 and to become the largest production centre in Africa. To reach its goals, the government is investing in infrastructure projects, tax advantages and favourable loans for investors.
The 4th edition of Africa’s leading textile trade show, AFRICA SOURCING AND FASHION WEEK (ASFW) will take place from 1 to 4 October 2018 in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia’s capital and one of Africa’s biggest cities. It will bring together the cotton, textile, apparel, leather, home decor and technology industries. More than 250 international exhibitors and exporters from 25 countries will showcase their products and innovations to more than 4,000 visitors. Here too, all signs point to growth: in 2017 the number of exhibitors increased by 30 % and visitors by 5 %.
The trade shows Texworld Addis Abeba, Apparel Sourcing Addis Abeba and Texprocess Addis Abeba taking place in the framework of ASFW offer ideal platforms for textiles, apparel and textile technologies. At the ASFW Conference during the upcoming show the focus will be on “Sustainability in Production” and “Transformation in Technology”. There will be a special conference on “Continental Free Trade in Africa”. In addition, in an Investment Panel the governments of Mauritius, Madagascar, Kenya and Ethiopia will highlight investment opportunities in their respective countries.
ASFW is organised in partnership with Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH, the Ethiopia Textile Development Institute (ETIDI) and the Ethiopia Textile and Garment Manufacturers Association (ETGAMA) and supported by the government of Ethiopia.
