Trade fair venues become vaccination centres

The coronavirus pandemic continues to hold the trade show world in its grasp. Trade show venues are now being used as vaccination centres, rather than for trade shows. This is also the case in India, where the trade shows Gartex Texprocess India and Screen Print India, which were scheduled for March 2021, have been postponed. The new dates will be announced soon.

April 2021

Vaccinations against Covid-19 are being rolled out worldwide. In preparation for upcoming vaccination drives, super-sized facilities are being redeployed as vaccination centres, among them the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India. As a result, the trade shows Gartex Texprocess India and Screen Print India, scheduled to be held there in March 2021, have had to be postponed. Instead, during this period people will be able to get their vaccinations in the Exhibition Centre. But postponed is not the same as cancelled: To get the economy off the ground, the trade shows will be rescheduled for the first half of 2021. Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, states: “With positivity returning in the trade community amidst the positive news of the vaccine roll out, our goal ahead is clear – to create a safe and conducive environment for business exchange. We’re working in close co-operation with venue authorities and service providers on next steps to implement a comprehensive safety concept, under the 'MFISafeConnect' standards.”

Economic restart: While 2020 was a challenging year for business, the vaccination rollouts reinject some optimism into 2021. Anticipation is building for events in which the exhibitors, visitors and suppliers will once again be able to meet face-to-face, rather than just online. "As the Indian economy gears up for the ‘big business reset’, the exhibition industry is ready to provide a shot in the arm to businesses,” added Mr Manek.

The trade shows Gartex Texprocess India and Screen Print India bring the entire textile value chain together and are of major significance to the whole sector. The new dates will be announced soon. The Delhi editions of the two trade shows continue to be on schedule for 6–8 August 2021 in New Delhi.
