Padded chairs and sofas, houses with green roofs and walls and concealed bridge piers. They all have one thing in common: technical textiles. Life in the city presents the textile industry with new challenges. On the 22nd of November 2019, Techtextil India, which is organised by Messe Frankfurt, will host a hackathon centred on the new requirements fabrics have to meet today. The „Techtextil NEXT“ event will take place in India for the first time and aims at promoting start-ups developing innovative prototypes and products for the textile industry. The objective is to develop plausible and universal business models. Ten Indian start-ups working in the fibre, yarn and textile production industry as well as established businesses will take part in the programme.
In a three-hour session, the hackaton will focus on issues like micro plastics, ocean pollution, plastic recycling and waste management in terms of fashion and sustainability. Today, technical textiles, often unnoticed, are already used in innovative ways to solve current issues. Due to their multiple functions and particular properties the specially treated fabrics can be found in almost all industries, whether as medical masks, car seat covers or hiking equipment. This is mirrored in the twelve product segments the exhibitors’ offer is divided into. Textiles are everywhere, in construction, agriculture or family homes. Considering increasing digitalisation, this will be an ongoing process. Smart textiles are only waiting for the starting signal.
