Trade Show: Cinte Techtextil China

Technical textiles as a market driver

Technical textiles and nonwovens are gaining ground and not only enjoying popularity in the clothing industry, but also increasingly being used in other sectors. From 4 until 6 September this year, biennial event Cinte Techtextil China will once again be presenting the latest innovations and a variety of applications.

March 2018

The market for Asian technical textiles and nonwovens is going from strength to strength. This will also be clear to see at Cinte Techtextil, taking place from 4 until 6 September this year. China, in particular, is also reporting a significant growth in this special segment, which is set to grow further in the coming years due to state investments in the industry and a high demand: total production is expected to reach over 22 million tonnes in the year 2020. This will account for almost a third of global production.[1] The doubling of revenue in 2013 also speaks for a strong development of the industry. In 2016, China’s technical textile exports were already worth 23.61 billion US dollars.[2] The next five years will see particular growth in the following product sectors: filtration and separation textiles, medical and hygiene textiles, geotechnical textiles, structural reinforcement textiles, transport textiles and protective textiles.[3]

Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt, is looking forward to the trade fair with optimism: “It is due to the increasing opportunities in the Asian market that we are expecting more European exhibitors to feature at Cinte Techtextil China this year.” Twelve different areas of use, from Buildtech to Geotech down to Medtech and Mobiltech, will be attracting buyers from the most diverse of industries and thereby giving exhibitors the opportunity to network with customers from different sectors and maximise the potential of their products. As well as many new European exhibitors, many returning companies from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Belgium will also be represented.

China is not only one of the top players in the production of technical textiles and nonwovens but was also responsible for 10.5% of global nonwoven imports in 2015.[4] From 2016 to 2020, it is expected that China will account for 57% of the total Asian consumption of nonwovens.  According to the China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association, sectors in which nonwovens are used, such as environmental protection, medical, healthcare and elderly care, emergency services and electric cars, will gain in significance.[6] China currently accounts for 65% of the world market share of manmade fibres. Demand in the wider Asian region is expected to remain strong due to the growing population and the rising standards of living in China. The driving force is not only the clothing industry, but also the filtration, construction, protection and transportation industries.[7]

As the world’s largest producer of technical textiles and nonwovens, China imported textile machinery from 65 countries worth 2.57 billion US dollars in the year 2016 alone. China is also the biggest consumer of textile coatings on the global market, with a particular rise in demand in the sectors Protech, Buildtech, Mobiltech and Medtech.[8] During Cinte Techtextil China, professional visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this highly promising segment and discover pioneering innovations.

The trade fair is organised by Messe Frankfurt, the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT and the China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association. Registration for exhibitors of Cinte Techtextil China opened today.
