Sustainability and innovation. Lenzing is among the industry's pioneers in textile technologies. For its "Lenzing Web Technology" project, the company has won the coveted "Staatspreis Innovation" award, which is bestowed every year in Austria for exceptional innovative achievements. The award is given to the country's most innovative company every year, in 2020 for the 40th time.
What is the process Lenzing was awarded for? The company has taken the production of nonwovens to the next level with a new process that has been patented 25 times. What makes this process special is the combination of fibre and nonwovens production in only one step. A unique self-bonding mechanism binds wood fibre pulp during the spinning process, so that binders, which are found in many common nonwovens, are no longer needed. The result is a nonwoven made of 100 per cent continuous Lyocell filaments that is plastic-free and biodegradable. “This award is a great recognition of our work. Our goal is to grow continuously with sustainable innovations and to look beyond our fibres to the needs of our customers and partners and to the needs of consumers worldwide,” says Stefan Doboczky, CEO of Lenzing Group.
Next year’s editions of leading international trade shows Techtextil and Texprocess will present the industry’s most promising developments in Frankfurt am Main from 4th to 7th May 2021. Under the motto “Sustainability at Techtexil” and “Sustainability at Texprocess”, the focus was already on exhibitors’ innovative methods in 2019. In the Texprocess Forum, for instance, one of the issues discussed by industry leaders was whether sustainability is the key to innovation. Lenzing was also among the exhibitors, presenting its approaches to efficiency, circularity and ecological sustainability.
