New technologies are revolutionising markets, the print industry included. Here, digital printing in particular has caused major changes. The segment is growing and growing and there is no end in sight. According to a new study by the market research company MarketandMarkets, digital textile printing will generate a turnover of 1.76 billion USD in 2018, a figure that is expected to reach 2.31 billion USD by 2023.
But what does that mean for traditional techniques like silk-screen printing? In a current study by Smithers Pira, screen printing continues to maintain its significance. “Although screen printing cannot compete with the other printing processes in terms of speed and volume, it does still hold a significant market share,” it says in the study. It goes on to mention that screen printing is very versatile and has the ability to print almost any fluid onto any surface – whether metal, glass, textiles or plastic. Screen printing also has a huge competitive advantage in niche applications such as metallic colours and two-component ink systems for high-performance applications.
The latest screen printing technologies by over 80 exhibitors from 14 countries worldwide will be on show from 20 until 22 April 2018 at the Bombay Exhibition and Convention Center in Mumbai, which is where international trade fair Screen Print India 2018 is taking place.
