Cotton plays a key role in the textile industry. The International Cotton Conference Bremen (Internationale Baumwolltagung Bremen) will take place also this year, under the motto "Passion for Cotton" and for the first time as a hybrid event with a virtual focus. Participants can look forward to a varied programme from 17th to 18th March 2021. There will be talks, speeches and panel discussions on scientifically proven and practice-oriented findings about cotton production, textile processing and the textile supply chain as well as insights into innovative applications.
Cotton is traditionally used for home textiles and clothing, but the fibre is capable of a lot more. The "Innovative Textiles and Technical Products" talk, led by Michael Jänecke, Director Brand Management Technical Textiles & Textile Processing at Messe Frankfurt, will focus on cotton's many possible fields of application. Various speakers will present case studies showing new fields, where all-rounder cotton can also be used. Whether it is fluorescent, super magnetic or water-repellent - equipped with varied properties, cotton has a huge potential for technical or functional textiles. Cotton scores also when it comes to non-wovens, home textiles or functional clothing because the material is by nature rain and wind proof and breathable. Goodbye plastic, hello cotton - Dr Noureddine Abidi, professor and director at the Fiber and Polymer Research Institute of Texas Tech University, has found a way to process cotton as an alternative to crude oil-based plastics, and so avoid the use of loads of plastic.
Interested parties can register here for the 35th International Cotton Conference from 17th to 18th March 2021. Innovative textile processing and technical textiles ideas will be also presented at trade show duo Techtextil and Texprocess from 21st to 24th June 2022 in Frankfurt am Main.
