March 2020
On 11th March 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the coronavirus a pandemic. "We cannot say this loudly enough or clearly enough or often enough: all countries can still change the course of this pandemic", said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of WHO at the press conference the same day. India reacted by suspending all visas, with the exception of few categories, for a month to stop the spreading of the Covid-19 virus.
Due to recent safety measures, the organisers of Gartex Texprocess India have decided to postpone the trade show's next edition, which was scheduled to take place from 19th to 21st March 2020. "The health of our exhibitors, visitors, staff and all stakeholders is our highest priority", says Raj Manek, general manager and member of the board of Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd. The majority of exhibitors interviewed by organisers Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd and MEX Exhibitions were also in favour of postponing the trade show. "We appreciate the support given by the industry and our exhibitors, whose interests are at the core of this decision. We are working on the next steps to simplify the process and safeguard ongoing business for the industry in the future," says Gaurav Juneja, director of MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd.
The trade show's new dates will be announced in the coming weeks. The Delhi edition of Gartex Texprocess India is still planned for 21st to 23rd August 2020.
