People are keeping fit with regular exercise, healthy with a balanced diet and relaxed with regular time out and relaxation techniques – the health and fitness market has been booming for a number of years now. However, one important building block for permanent physical and psychological well-being is still being neglected: restful sleep. Whether because of too much light or annoying noises, permanent overstimulation due to digitalisation and excessive use of electronic devices or simply a general inability to relax and switch off – countless studies, such as the Forsa study carried out last year for the Techniker Krankenkasse, are meanwhile proving that we are sleeping worse than ever. For this reason, from 8-11 January 2019 the upcoming edition of Heimtextil, the international trade fair for home and contract textiles in Frankfurt am Main, will be putting the spotlight on the “Future of Sleep”.
But what will it bring? Answers to this question will be provided by companies such as Withings from France, who will be presenting its sleep tracker “Sleep”. It analyses sleep quality based on parameters like duration, depth and regularity and gives tips on how to develop healthier sleeping habits. Or German start-up Sleeperoo with its “Sleep Cube” sleep capsule, aimed at offering overnight experiences in the most exotic places. At the new “Sleep! The Future Forum”, international experts – ranging from sleep researchers to top athletes – will be talking about the latest scientific and research findings and providing helpful and practical tips in the four thematic areas of Science & Digital, Sport, Hotels and Sustainability.
