July 2020
How do we react to radical change? In many ways. But what is obvious for everyone is the need to be in contact with one’s self and with others. That is what “Bound” means: To re-establish the dialogue between cultures and generations. Rediscover the harmony between man and nature. Rebuild the bridges that span the past and the present. Rethink the connection between humans and technology. These are the goals defined by Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles organiser Messe Frankfurt and trend forecasting agency Nelly Rodi for the coming year.
Together with the general design theme “Bound”, the trend researchers have identified three trends for the home textiles industry for 2021. “Cozy warmth” creates a cocooning atmosphere with soft pastels and natural beiges made of voluminous, fluffy materials like angora and washed terrycloth. With natural, telluric tones on the one hand and dark, mineral colours of the other, “Past Future” bridges the duality of hot and cold, using grainy crepe, rustic hemp and 3D-treated denim. “Bold Clash” is opulent and majestic, coupling regal gold, intense blue and flamboyant red, mixing in dark greens and cameo pink on maxi jacquards and colourful faux furs with braids and beaded floral embroideries. The complete Trend Guide is now available online.
More information about the trends for 2021 will be given at Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles, which will take place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from 24th to 26th August 2020. “Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles will be one of the first large-scale, international events for the home and contract textiles sector to be held since Heimtextil in January, so we hope that the global industry will take this opportunity to reconnect, recalibrate and make the most of what remains of the business year, and look to the coming year as well,” stated Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager at Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd.
