Trade show: Heimtextil

Heimtextil Journey through Time

Congratulations! The world’s largest trade show for home and contract textiles, Heimtextil, celebrates its 50th anniversary and looks back at a successful journey. Not only words, but action too: with a view to the future, action on sustainability forms a focus of the highlight-packed event.

January 2020

What began in January 1971 with 679 exhibitors has by now evolved into the world’s largest trade show for home and contract textiles: from 7–10 January 2020 Heimtextil will bring together the international home textile industry for the fiftieth time. Nearly 3,000 businesses from 65 countries will be presenting their innovations in the halls of Messe Frankfurt. Under the motto ‘Heimtextil Journey through Time – Celebrating 50 Years of Interior Design’, the trade show invites visitors to take a tour through five decades of Heimtextil history with specially designed spaces incorporating design classics from past decades.

Up-to-date: while the digital revolution is leading to fundamental changes in the manufacture and processing of home textiles, sustainability is the dominant, overarching theme of the industry. At the press conference to launch Heimtextil, Lucie Brigham, Chief of Office at United Nations Office for Partnerships, spoke about the Sustainable Development Goals and collaboration with Heimtextil. The SDGs will be presented in the sustainability area in hall 12.0 alongside highlights like the German government's ‘Grüner Knopf’ textile seal and two innovative showcases.  In focus for ten years: the tenth edition of the Green Directory, the exhibitor directory for sustainable producers, includes more pioneers and new entries than ever before with 259 companies. Visions that set examples: sustainability aspects were also at the forefront of the concept for this year’s Trend Spaces. To this end the designers adopted a material manifesto designed to minimise the environmental footprint by using alternative, sustainable materials. “Heimtextil thus invites you to a design show that not only talks about sustainability but also embraces it in practical terms and, thanks to this approach and its reputation, is unrivalled worldwide”, says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.
