India in the fast lane

Heimtextil India underlines growth of domestic home textiles industry.

January 2018

The textile sector is one of the oldest industry branches of India’s economy and the production of textiles and clothing are still among the country’s most important sectors. India is not only second in the world when it comes to the global production of cotton, silk and jute, but the South Asian state also has the second highest number of spinning mills in the world – second only to China in both instances.

When it comes to home textiles, the emerging market is the world’s number one. According to a report from trade magazine Textile Focus in May 2017, India is becoming the world’s leading producer in the home textiles sector. According to the forecast, the home textiles industry in India is growing at a rate of eight percent and should reach a volume of 5.29 billion US dollars by the end of 2018. This development is also reflected in the current figures of Heimtextil India, the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles, which attracted 198 exhibitors from six countries and more than 7,400 visitors from 20-22 June 2017. The exhibition area alone increased by 25 percent in 2017. Heimtextil India is therefore once again asserting itself as an ideal platform on which to discover the latest trends in home and contract textiles and offers a wealth of opportunities to come into contact with the booming markets of the Indian subcontinent.

The next Heimtextil India, the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles, is taking place from 27-29 June 2018 in New Delhi.
