Digitalisation – Heimtextil on the road to the future

Trends come and go. The forecasts of the Heimtextil Trend Council predict customer needs in advance, giving textile manufacturers a competitive edge. The trend showcase reinvents itself for Heimtextil 2019.

Heimtextil is pushing ahead: Having worked out a new concept for the halls, it is now time to redesign the trend programme. Preparations began earlier than ever before with the design researchers’ meeting in Frankfurt am Main on 20 and 21 February. The keyword here is digitalisation. Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt, is pleased to reconfirm the global reputation of the Heimtextil trends as a flagship of the trade fair. ‘That's why it is very important to us that we continue to live up to our pioneering role with our new trend concept and offer our exhibitors and visitors a future-oriented programme. In the future, we will strengthen this showcasing above all at the digital level’.

The Heimtextil Trend Council is made up of trend researchers from three European agencies. British design studio FranklinTill will once again play a leading role, as they did for the last edition of Heimtextil, and is responsible for the realisation of the Trendbook. They are supported by the Stijlinstituut Amsterdam (Netherlands) and SPOTT Trends & Business (Denmark). The Trend Council aims to identify current trends in interior design, architecture, fashion and art and to channel these into one design theme. In the months to come the multinational team will work out a global trend forecast, which will be published in a Trendbook to coincide with Heimtextil. Heimtextil’s exhibitors will receive a copy in advance so that they can integrate the forecasted trends in their product designs and collections. The Trend Council and those responsible for the trade fair will invite representatives of the press to a trend preview on 4 September 2018.

The new “Trend Space” will showcase the work of the Trend Council in Hall 3.0, replacing the previous “Theme Park”. The Frankfurt agency Atelier Markgraph specialises in spatial concepts for communication and will use analogue/digital experience formats in the “Trend Space” to introduce trade fair visitors to the new trends for 2019/2020. The new location in Hall 3.0 is a strategic choice, in close proximity to international textile designers, CAD/CAM suppliers and digital printer manufacturers. The combination of trends, textile design and digital printing creates an area full of inspiration. Hall 3.0 will be opened exclusively to exhibitors on the eve of Heimtextil on 7 January 2019.
