Better quality and better for the environment. Millennials particularly are willing to pay higher prices if a product lives up to their expectations and values. “It is the opposite of a trend: It is a deliberate lifestyle decision”, says Karin Malmström, director of the Cotton Council China & Northeast Asia. Apart from the latest market and consumer reports, the global non-profit organisation presented eco-friendly US cotton at Yarn Expo, which ran in Shanghai from 25th to 27th September 2019. And sustainability was also the focus of the trade show’s autumn edition programme. There were not enough chairs for the listeners of Chinese viscose supplier Sateri’s seminar “EcoCosy BV empowers Innovation and Sustainability along the Value Chain”. “Yarn Expo is very professional, and the offering is huge, that’s why people from all over the world come here”, says Andy Zhang, sales deputy manager at Sateri. More than 19,000 visitors from 93 countries travelled to Shanghai.
“Fancy Yarn Vision” was the name of a new exhibition area for fancy and functional yarns at the trade show’s autumn edition. Yarns with an additional function were in demand especially from Chinese buyers. “We are very happy to see the new Fancy Yarn display area, which is very handy for us to efficiently find good quality fancy yarn exhibitors”, said Bonnie Chan, manager of raw materials at Pacific Textiles, stressing the added value of the specially dedicated area.
Visitors and exhibitors are unanimous. Yarn Expo has once again asserted itself as the leading platform for all kinds of yarns and fibres. An increase of 8% in exhibitor numbers confirms this. With 543 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions, the trade show presented an unprecedented, diverse offer of quality products. The spring edition of Yarn Expo will take place from 11th to 13th March 2020.
