Around two thirds of the earth’s surface is covered with water. Fashion, too, is inextricably linked with water. Whether it’s the cultivation of raw materials, dyeing and other finishing processes, or the everyday washing of garments – in the cycle of fashion, water is ubiquitous.
“Water means power – and responsibility”. With these words, Thimo Schwenzfeier, Show Director of Neonyt, perfectly sums up the relevance of the whole water theme. “Hardly any other industry in the world uses as much water as the fashion industry. Neonyt presents inspiring best-practice examples from the world of fashion and provides new stimulus to encourage a change in thinking – in a constructive and progressive way.” Neonyt takes place at Kraftwerk Berlin during Berlin Fashion Week and will look at the two poles of fashion and water from a fresh perspective.
Like Neonyt, the individual formats that make up the global hub are also placing a focus on water: The international conference Fashionsustain (16 January 2019) pinpoints current issues such as microplastics and water stewardship. Top-flight speakers from innovative businesses present visionary approaches to bring about positive change. The Neonyt Trade Fair (15 to 17 January 2019), the largest trade show for sustainable fashion, promotes a new way of thinking and sets the scene around water in various ways as a trending theme.
