Tempelhof Airport: A new location

Berlin Tempelhof is an architecturally timeless and aesthetically outstanding complex of protected landmark buildings that overwhelms for its uniqueness, size and objectivity alone. From 14-16 January 2020, Neonyt will be taking place in Hangar 4 of this former Berlin airport for the very first time. The relocation opens up new growth opportunities for Neonyt, the global hub for fashion, sustainability and innovation.

September 2019

During the upcoming edition of Berlin Fashion Week from 14-16 January 2020 in a number of locations throughout the city, Neonyt, which is organised by Messe Frankfurt, is moving to a new location. For the first time, the decommissioned former central airport of the German capital will be providing the backdrop for the global hub for fashion, sustainability and innovation. Moving the event to the airport building also opens up further opportunities for growth and development for Neonyt.

…In the Air – This move to the former Tempelhof Airport is very much in keeping with the overarching theme of the upcoming Neonyt, which just so happens to be “Air”. Within the former departure and terminal building, initially Neonyt will be using Hangar 4 as an exhibition space, as well as the Airport Restaurant and entrance hall for the interdisciplinary and internationally successful Fashionsustain conference format and the Fashion Show. Over several thousands of square metres, these areas offer an ideal stage on which to bring the current portfolio of exhibitors and the diverse accompanying line-up together in one place.

The clearly structured stone, reinforced concrete and steel construction of the functional building from the 1930s, which combines monumental size with timeless modernity and objectivity, offers the ideal projection surface for the exhibitors’ collections. At the same time, Europe’s largest protected historic landmark also provides the perfect setting for the Neonyt Trade Show, the Fashion Show, Prepeek, the Fashionsustain conference and the associated Showcase and networking events.

“By relocating to Tempelhof airport, we’re moving into one of the most well-known locations in the city. The venue’s spacious grounds and Hangar 4 will provide us with a wealth of new opportunities to consistently develop and grow Neonyt even further. For the first time, we’ll be bringing all Neonyt exhibitors together on one level and thereby creating a whole new perspective on the interplay of collections, production technologies and insights from our event formats such as Fashionsustain and Prepeek,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President of Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.

Berlin can be described as rough around the edges, nonconformist and progressive. But that’s not all: with a unique history of success and growth, in the past decade the city has developed into the international capital of sustainable fashion. So what better time to bring innovative and sustainable fashion to the location whose impressively expansive runways and the sky above them are world-renowned symbols of freedom and belief in the future – Tempelhof.

Centrally located on the crossroads of Tempelhofer Damm and Columbiadamm and on the cusp of the Berlin districts of Schöneberg and Kreuzberg, Hangar 4 is exactly 10 minutes by subway from Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse in Mitte. Thanks to its direct proximity to suburban train and subway stations, the Mercedes Benz Shuttle Service and its location in the south-west of Berlin, the former airport offers the perfect transportation links to all other event venues of Berlin Fashion Week.
