Trade show: Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics & Yarn Expo

Sustainable growth

The trade shows Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics and Yarn Expo (12–14 March 2019) saw significant visitor growth compared to 2018. One development was particularly apparent: the Chinese textile market and international exhibitors are focusing on the industry trend towards sustainability.

March 2019

According to Fashion Network, last year China became the world’s largest apparel market. The Chinese demand is rapidly expanding and the industry must respond to the evolving expectations. Aspects such as environmental pollution and health are coming into focus for users in the Middle Kingdom too: with the smog in the major cities they get to feel its negative impact first hand. The sustainability efforts of the Chinese textile industry were also apparent at the Spring Editions of the trade shows Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics and Yarn Expo, which took place in the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from 12 to 14 March. “We can meet a lot of elite buyers here. They are taking a strong interest in functional and eco-friendly fabrics, which is also the main industry trend”, confirms exhibitor Gary Hsueh, Sales Manager Artex Textiles Co., Ltd, Taiwan, at the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics. Mr Mohamed Al-Fayed, Commercial Director Perfect Spinning Company, Egypt, adds: “I decided to exhibit at Yarn Expo for the first time because I wanted to expand our business to new regions. Brands worldwide are certainly asking their textile manufacturers to source eco-friendly yarns, and these manufacturers are coming to this fair.”

The visitor numbers at the trade show Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics were up 15 per cent on last year. The Spring Edition welcomed 94,661 visitors from more than 110 countries and regions. “We were not expecting such a strong increase again this edition,” acknowledged Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. The top 10 visitor countries and regions were Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, India, the US, Taiwan, Russia, Italy, Vietnam and Spain. The show Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics hosted 3,279 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions in six halls, with 12 per cent more overseas exhibitors than in last year. This year’s Yarn Expo Spring attracted 468 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions. Compared to 2018, nine per cent more visitors - a total of 28,302 - attended the fair.

Yarn Expo und Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics are organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT. Extensive range, efficient platform: showing at the same time at the National Exhibition and Convention Center were the trade shows Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles, PH Value and China International Fashion Fair (CHIC). The 25th Autumn Edition of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics will take place from 25 to 27 September 2019.
