Shoes have become an integral part of many fashion brands and represent a growing sector in the global fashion and textile business. The shoe industry is taking on a pioneering role – particularly in terms of disruptive technologies and automated production. Mass customisation is now being followed by the introduction of local and batch-sized one-off production. Reason enough to dedicate an entire conference to this subject: under the motto “Jump into the future”, the second edition of FASHIONSUSTAINBERLIN at Kraftwerk Berlin on Tuesday 3 July 2018 will be putting the spotlight on shoes, sneakers, leather and leather production.
Following the conference’s successful premiere in January, various value chain case studies and panel discussions will once again be dedicated to sustainable innovation and forward-looking fashion. During the upcoming Berlin Fashion Week, brands, developers, innovators, producers, researchers and industry experts will be showing how ecological textile technologies are changing the shoe, sneaker and leather business. The professional conference will be opened with the keynote “Passion & Compassion is Key — Fashion’s Inner Quest” by Bandana Tewari, Editor-at-Large for Vogue India and contributor to “The Business of Fashion”. The well-known Indian journalist will be emphasising the urgent need to move away from demonstrative consumption and make the change to an era of responsible consumption.
How can mixed reality – systems that mix the natural and artificial perception of a user – be used to make the fashion industry more sustainable? What could a market-leading circular service model for a premium fashion brand look like? How can all participants along the textile value chain be involved in transforming the industry in the interests of sustainability, re-usability and circularity?
Taking place at the same time as the conference, the FASHIONSUSTAIN Thinkathon will be entering its second round. Pioneering thinkers from a variety of different sectors will once again have less than 48 hours to pool their expertise and tackle specific industry challenges in a design-thinking task. The challenges will be set by KPMG, Microsoft HoloLens, Hugo Boss and Techtextil/Texprocess. A video summary of the Thinkathon will be presented directly to the closing panel at the FASHIONSUSTAIN conference at 3:00 pm on 3 July 2018.
