Understanding the doubts and hopes of a society and translating them visually – in the future that will increasingly become the task of fashion designers. Or at least that’s how the art directors of Paris textile fair Texworld see it. Each season they compile a trend forecast and in the current edition they are calling on people to take responsibility and referring to climate change: “By acting, we will be part of the solution. We need to change the itinerary,” it says in the “Réenchantment” trend book for autumn/winter 2020/21. Trend theme Réenchantment meets Fairyland of Fashion: under the “Fairyland for Fashion” banner, the six trade fairs Avantex Paris, Apparel Sourcing Paris, Shawls & Scarves Paris, Leatherworld Paris, Texworld Paris and Texworld Denim Paris will present their wide range of products and bring a total of 1,850 exhibitors to Paris – here too, the urgency of sustainable development is becoming increasingly apparent.
Texworld Paris, as the predominant event of the tradeshow ensemble, has been showing environmentally friendly and ethically produced fabrics for more than ten years now. And the 54th edition of the tradeshow is increasing the emphasis on sustainability with an even bigger selection of collections and products. Special labelling of environmentally conscious materials and processes, as well as social standards, should help provide orientation for visitors.
Avantex Paris provides a platform for international highlights at the interface of fashion, technology and innovation. The fair impresses with new solutions for fibres and textiles, print and design technology, wearables and software for new smart retail applications. And start-ups will be showcasing the results of their research on alternative manufacturing processes: in keeping with zero-waste design, the show will this year be highlighting biotech and biodesign – such as, for instance, the concept of biocouture developed by Openbio Fabrics.
One thing is certain: the demand for synthetic or organic-based materials is growing. At the upcoming edition of specialist material fair Leatherworld Paris, the focus will be on the international market for alternatives to skins, leathers and furs with the lecture “Associated materials, a booming global market” and a catwalk show.
What began eight years ago with 70 exhibitors is meanwhile the biggest tradeshow of the sourcing industry in Europe: this autumn, tradeshow duo Apparel Sourcing Paris and Shawls & Scarves Paris will be welcoming over 700 companies from all over the world. And the 17th edition will once again see the “Small Quantities” circuit offering a separate space for smaller-scale designers and capsule collections. Furthermore, around 50 vendors of textiles and clothing will be presented with the “Sustainable Sourcing” eco-label certification. Products focusing on craftsmanship and social aspects will be showcased in the “Artisan” segment.
