Healthier. Less harmful. More environmentally friendly. Increasing numbers of consumers are aspiring towards a sustainable lifestyle. As well as organic food and ecologically and fairly produced fashion, natural cosmetics also play a very big part in this. In Germany – its strongest European market – the segment reached a market share of 8.8 percent with a turnover of more than one billion euros in 2017; and together with near-natural cosmetics, this figure rises to 17 percent.* So around one in six consumers in Germany is using natural or near-natural cosmetics. This huge change that has taken place in the cosmetic market is illustrated very clearly by the increase of three quarters of a million consumers who used natural cosmetics for the first time in 2017.** But it’s not only German consumers who are increasingly opting for more environmentally friendly products – this trend is noticeable all around the world. For the global organic cosmetic sector, US-based market research and consulting firm Grand View Research, Inc. is predicting an annual growth of 9.5 percent to 25.1 billion USD by 2025.*** So it is hardly surprising that natural cosmetics have developed into an established segment of the big drugstores. Perfumeries and department stores are also following the trend with special natural cosmetic counters and even discount chains are launching their own natural cosmetic brands.
During the upcoming Berlin Fashion Week, Messe Frankfurt will be launching a ‘Beauty’ area for the first time at the tradeshows Ethical Fashion Show Berlin and Greenshowroom. Whether vegan nail polish, moisturising hydro serum, nourishing body oil or scented hair balm – from 3 until 5 July, cosmetic labels Benecos, Ringana by Tina Feller, Ella Brante and Biosfair will be presenting natural make-up, as well as hair, skincare and styling products. “Sustainable from head to toe – the new ‘Beauty’ area is rounding off the range of fair fashion at Ethical Fashion Show Berlin and Greenshowroom. So, in addition to the outfits, visitors can now also find the appropriate styling products here too,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President of Textiles and Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.
