Vaude, Ecoalf, Econyl – these three showcase enterprises for sustainability in the textile industry featured this year at the internationally renowned GreenTec Awards in Munich. All three shared a focus on sustainable material innovations.
And the winner is... Vaude. The German manufacturer of outdoor equipment won in the category Sport by Jack Wolfskin and was awarded for the Green Shape Core Collection. Vaude had showcased the collection just a few months before at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin, and had outlined the concept for its innovations based on biodegradable materials such as the vegetable fibre kapok, castor oil or cow’s milk at the conference FashionSustain.
A further highlight of the GreenTec Awards ceremony in Munich was the presentation by Ecoalf. The five semi-finalists of the current edition of ‘Germany’s Next Topmodel’ showcased Ecoalf outfits made from 100 per cent recycled materials. “With Ecoalf we show that there is no need to use our world’s natural resources in a careless way”, says founder and CEO Javier Goyeneche. The entire collection with sustainable styles for women and men, including bags and accessories, will be showcased at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin this July.
The GreenTec Awards were bestowed for the eleventh time. A 75-member jury comprising independent representative of business, science, politics and the media chose the twelve businesses and individuals awarded in various categories for their singular commitment to the protection of resources and the environment and a sustainable lifestyle. These included high-profile prize-winners like Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg (Entrepreneur of the Year) and Dr. Auma Obama (IFAT Environmental Leadership). All were to be seen on the ‘green carpet’ made by Object Carpet from the recycled fibre Econyl.
The GreenTec Awards were organised for the first time with partner Texpertise Network – the global network for more than 50 textile trade fairs worldwide.
