March 2020
„The shows were held this year under very particular circumstances," said Michael Scherpe, departing president of Messe Frankfurt France. Due to the Coronavirus situation, almost 50% of Chinese exhibitors were not able to travel to Paris. Visitor numbers at the 10th to 13th February edition decreased year-on-year by 49% to 7,109. The trade show's Chinese partners, however, have already signalled their readiness to return in the autumn. „For this reason, one can already imagine that the September session will be very good for business", said Michael Scherpe, who will hand over the helm of Messe Frankfurt France to his successor Frédéric Bougeard in April, after 40 years with the German trade show organiser.
The uncertainty regarding production in China helped other countries at the trade shows. As many buyers were keen to secure their procurement with exhibitors who were present, countries like Turkey and Korea received better orders. The circumstances also favoured orders for small quantities of textiles or finished clothing at Texworld Paris, which was the first trade show to offer this extra service for buyers and designers in particular. Mongolia, present for the first time with a national pavilion at Texworld Paris, presented products made of yak or camel wool. Turkey attracted attention with a 500m²stand and many creative products, which are also listed in the Trend Book.
At Texworld Denim, sustainability was high on the agenda, with OEKO-Tex® answering questions as part of the joint campaign with Messe Frankfurt's partner Foursource. Sustainable products were also to be found at Avantex Paris, where a 100% biodegradable textile made of proteins was on showcase. In addition to a varied trade show programme including panel discussions and speeches on important issues like transparency, circularity and Corporate Social Responsibility as well as the traditional fashion show, Messe Frankfurt France announced a cooperation with French arts school L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués (LISAA). The next „Fairyland for Fashion“ will take place from 14th to 17th September 2020.
