Fifty times Fashionsustain is sustainability

Around 50 keynote speeches, panel discussions and master classes. Neonyt’s conference format Fashionsustain took place from 14th to 16th January with top-class speakers. Fashionsustain’s next stop will be ISPO in Munich.

January 2020

What happens when roughly 50 consistently forward-thinking fashion players talk on two stages about sustainability, innovation and the changing fashion industry? The result could be seen at former Tempelhof airport from 14th to 16th January 2020. Change is in the air – With speakers like Armedangels, Asket, Brigitte Be Green, Cleandye, circular.fashion, Fashion Revolution, Fridays for Future, Fung Group, H&M, ISKO, Katag AG, Lenzing, Nudie Jeans, SAC, The Sustainable Angel, the United Nations Office for Partnerships, YKK and Zalando as well as partners like ClimatePartner, Fashion Council Germany, hessnatur, re:publica, Schuhkurier & Step, Textile Exchange und Textilwirtschaft on stage and in the forum, the trade show programme themed “air” was diverse and highly informative and inspiring and energetic in its overall statement. Sustainability forces every single player in the textile supply chain to have a rethink. One of the messages resulting from three intensive days of discussion was that change in the fashion industry can be achieved only through cooperation. “As a company, which has signed the UN Charta for climate protection, we have so many possibilities to make a change together. We will reach goals more effectively as a group than as working on measures as brands or organisations alone”, said Zachariny Angelini, Environmental Stewardship Manager at Timberland, during the “SDGs X Fashion – The UN’s Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action” panel with Kaira Shetty from United Nations Office for Partnerships, Alexander Gege from Otto Group and Harold Weghorst from Lenzing AG.

Fashionsustain, which was launched as a conference alongside and as part of sustainability and innovation hub Neonyt in Berlin in January 2018, today is an international format with spin-offs at trade shows like Techtextil/Texprocess in Frankfurt, Texworld in Paris and New York and Intertextile Shanghai. Its next stop will be sports goods and fashion trade show ISPO in Munich on 26th January 2020. At Fashionsustain ISPO on Sunday, select issues will be discussed in depth. For the first time, trade shows, which are leaders in their respective fields, will cooperate to form panel discussions. Focusing on specific topics, ISPO and Neonyt will combine their assertiveness to further push the important issue sustainability further in their respective industries.
