Water is a vital and elementary resource for the textile and fashion industry. On 16 January 2019 at Kraftwerk Berlin, progressive conference format Fashionsustain will be dedicated to this topic, not one-dimensionally, but four-dimensionally. The conference brings together global approaches with local ones and highlights overarching strategies and visions for a new and more sustainable use of water. During the Neonyt conference, inspiring players from the industry and civil society will be presenting sustainable concepts for the fashion of tomorrow.
Clare Press, author, fashion activist and sustainability editor-at-large of Vogue Australia, will be opening the conference day with her passionate keynote speech “We Are Water. Inspiration & Respiration.” In the first session Philipp Wagnitz, International Director of Freshwater Resources at WWF, will be highlighting the critical impact of textile production from a global perspective, based on the example of inland waters. The congress will also focus on the subject area of denim, as well as countering the perspectives of established fashion corporations by smallholder viewpoints, and presenting solutions that can sustainably transform supply chains, even in regions where water is scarce. Trend topics like cradle to cradle, ocean plastic, the social impact of natural fibres and alternative material innovations will be discussed by best-practice companies like Spindye and Blueben.
The Fashionsustain conference is organised by Messe Frankfurt and takes place during Neonyt, the global hub for fashion, sustainability and innovation (15. – 17. January 2019). This hub is made up of the Neonyt Trade Fair, the conference duo Fashionsustain and #Fashiontech by the Premium Group and the design-thinking format Thinkathon, the Neonyt Fashion Show, showcases, the influencer and blogger event Prepeek, networking events and last but not least, the Neonyt Party. The hub is taking over from the former trade fair duo Ethical Fashion Show Berlin and Greenshowroom.
