Industry news: Frankfurt Fashion Week

Fashion Week goes Frankfurt

A new fashion metropolis: with the focus on ‘Applied Sustainability’ and ‘Applied Digitisation’, the vision of a new Fashion Week ecosystem is being turned into a reality in Frankfurt am Main. With tradeshows, conferences, runway shows and events taking place throughout the entire city, Frankfurt Fashion Week will become the new hotspot for the international fashion business from summer 2021. It will be initiated by Messe Frankfurt and the Premium Group and hosted by the City of Frankfurt am Main and the State of Hesse.

June 2020

Unveiling the unexpected: From summer 2021, Frankfurt Fashion Week will become the new home of a forward-looking fashion and lifestyle community. Joining forces to get the event off the ground are the world’s largest trade fair, congress and event organiser with its own exhibition grounds – Messe Frankfurt – and the organiser of Europe’s biggest fashion fair – the Premium Group – as the initiators, as well as the City of Frankfurt am Main and the German state of Hesse as hosts. With a focus on sustainability and digitalisation – the future issues facing the fashion and textile industry – a brand-new Fashion Week ecosystem complete with tradeshows, conferences, runway shows and events is emerging in the metropolis on the Main River.

“This will transform the financial centre of Frankfurt into a new hotspot for the international fashion and lifestyle scene and create a new, international fashion metropolis,” explained Peter Feldmann, the Senior Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main, at the digital press conference on 8 June 2020. And in the words of Tarek Al-Wazir, Minister of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing and Vice Minister-President of the State of Hesse: “The Rhine-Main Region is predestined to host an internationally significant event of this magnitude as we are cosmopolitan and international.”

A core component of Frankfurt Fashion Week will be Europe’s biggest fashion fairs Premium, Seek and Neonyt which, together with the FashionSustain and FashionTech conferences, are moving from the River Spree to the River Main. “Frankfurt Fashion Week will become an extremely attractive and relevant destination for the international fashion business,” says Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt. Runway shows and events throughout the entire city will also be bringing Frankfurt’s creative scene together with the international fashion community. “Frankfurt Fashion Week is purposely aimed at a forward-looking, digital-savvy fashion and lifestyle community. B2B, B2C, B2P, P2P – all avenues are open,” says Anita Tillmann, Managing Partner of the Premium Group.

Frankfurt Fashion Week will bring together fashion, design, sustainability and technology. ‘Applied Sustainability’ and ‘Applied Digitisation’ form the strategic pillars of the event. Making sustainable innovations and business models accessible to a wide market – that’s what Frankfurt Fashion Week sees as its mission. At the same time, it will also showcase applied digital innovations for a digital-savvy fashion culture and a networked way of doing business.

Twice a year, from summer 2021 the Main metropolis will become the place to be for everyone who loves fashion, celebrates fashion and wants to change fashion.
