“Our roots, origin and culture creates part of our identity and shapes how we perceive the world and no matter where we are or what we do, a little piece of home, “Heimat”, always remains with us.” That’s how Canadian singer Cindy Gomez, brand ambassador of the 2019 Frankfurtstyleaward, explains this year’s theme “Heimat 4.0”. “Heimat” is the German word for home or homeland, but the concept has a deeper meaning and is used to describe a sense of familiarity or belonging. The significant international young talent contest is inviting young fashion designers to redefine this term and – quite literally – dress it in a new set of clothes.
Save the date: Both the finale and the award ceremony are taking place on 29 June 2019 for the first time at Tendence, the trade fair for consumer goods in Frankfurt am Main, where the best 60 fashion designers will be showcasing their designs in three fashion shows. From July 2019, the Frankfurtstyleaward Top 60 collection “Heimat 4.0” will then be setting off on an international roadshow.
In the past, the contest has been aimed exclusively at fashion students, but it is now also open to master students and newcomers with their own label (age limit: 35 years old). Former finalists of the Frankfurtstyleawards may also apply again.
The Frankfurtstyleaward is under the patronage of the City of Frankfurt and funded by Messe Frankfurt, Fraport AG, FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International, the Wirtschaftsinitiative Frankfurt RheinMain (Frankfurt Rhine-Main Business Initiative) and the Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt (Frankfurt Economic Development).
