The ten finalists of this year's Young Designer Competition will showcase their designs on the theme "Africa Is Now" on 4 November 2020. The competition for young design students will be held for the third time during Allfashion Sourcing Cape Town, formerly ATF Expo and Source Africa. The main prize: A trip to France and Texworld Paris in February 2021, where the up-and-coming designers can showcase their work to the international fashion industry and win a ZAR 10,000 (ca. EUR 515) cash prize. Inspiring ideas and exciting looks: The finalists were chosen by trend forecaster Nicola Cooper and the Cape Town Fashion Council. Says Cooper: "Africa has shaken off its history of replicating international fashion trends, Africans are clearly defining what is African. Fashion is bringing about a new season of freedom and exploration into African narratives. Whether it is the music, art and the broader world of African design."
Digital together: To ensure that the international fashion world can get together despite ongoing travel and contact restrictions worldwide, this year Allfashion Sourcing Cape Town will be a digital event. From 3 to 5 November 2020, the industry will be able to network on an online platform. Says Allfashion Sourcing Cape Town Show Director Kathryn Frew, "Allfashion Sourcing is the platform to show their talent to the world and hopefully it will springboard for their careers in the world of fashion. The top ten designs selected were filmed in studio and the full production will form part of the program –albeit pre-recorded." Interested parties can now register for the digital trade show online.
